RunSignup’s has introduced a new Announcer Mode in the RaceDay Mobile App, a new feature that delivers a continuous stream of live participant data to an announcer’s mobile device or tablet as participants pass timing equipment on the course or at the finish line. RunSignup’s free RaceDay Mobile app continues to offer a solution for backup timing, manual timing, and automated photos. This new announcer mode delivers up real-time, integrated data from RaceDay Scoring directly into an easy-to-read, concise format for race announcers.
Announcer Content and Displays
As participants cross timing points, the app populates with customized content based on the setup and information gathered at registration. This can include:
- Identification: Name, bib number, age, gender, and hometown
- Event Context: Team/club names, corporate affiliations, and charity designations
- Custom Insights: Answers to custom registration questions — things like “First-time marathoner” or “Running in honor of…”
The new announcer mode in the RaceDay Mobile app offers four display formats so that announcers can chose what works best for them for a given circumstance such as a batch or table view for high volume races.
- Card-at-a-Time View — One large-format card for clear visibility on individual runners
- Batch View — Groups of five or ten participants to prepare ahead of clusters of finishers
- Table View — A scrollable list for a high-level overview of recent and upcoming traffic
- Manual Bib Look-up — Instantly pulls up a specific participant’s profile for unplanned interviews or recognition
RaceDay Scoring Integration for Accesing Real-Time Data
The new Announcer Mode pulls live data directly from RaceDay Scoring‘s hub — no manual exports, no waiting on a results page refresh. This provides a very efficient way for announcers to confidently recognize participants as they complete a race and helps them to provide an engaging and rewarding experience for participants and spectators a like.
More Than a Timing App
Announcer Mode is the latest in a growing set of capabilities that prompted us to rename the app from RaceDay Mobile Timing to RaceDay Mobile. The backup timing features remain central for timers, but integrated Photo Capturing and Announcer Mode serve the broader event and race organizer audience.
For timers, the app handles manual timing for smaller or remote events — ultras, track and field, cross country, cycling, water events — and functions as a backup for chip-timed events, recording data quietly in the background without publishing it publicly. Automated, integrated Photo Capturing lets timers or volunteers capture participant photos at the finish line or along the course, automatically tagging bib numbers and linking images to each participant’s results page and the event’s photo gallery.
