Uploading thousands of race photos is easy. Sorting through them afterward takes longer than it should.
You can now select multiple photos in the photo viewer and delete them or add them to another album in a single action.
Where to find it
Open your Race Dashboard, go to Photos, then View & Manage Photos, and choose Advanced Mode. You will see a new Select Photos button above your photos.
Click it to enter selection mode. Each photo becomes a checkbox, and an action bar appears at the bottom of the screen.
What you can do in selection mode
Select photos individually. Click any photo to check or uncheck it. The action bar shows a running count, such as “24 photos selected.”
Select All and Unselect All. Select All checks every photo currently loaded on the page. The page loads more photos as you scroll, so scroll down first if you want to include them.
Delete. Click Delete to open a confirmation popup that shows how many photos you are about to remove and reminds you that all tagged bib numbers will be removed with them. Click Yes, Delete to confirm. The app returns you to your photo list and confirms how many photos it deleted.
Add to Album. Click Add to Album, pick a destination album from the list, and click Add. Albums appear grouped by event date, so you can see exactly where the photos are going. The app confirms how many photos it added and names the album.
Cancel. Click Cancel, or the Cancel Selection button above your photos, to leave selection mode. Your selection clears.
The Delete and Add to Album buttons stay disabled until you select at least one photo, so you cannot act on an empty selection by accident.
A note on albums and event days
You can add selected photos to any album that belongs to the same event day the photos came from. If you choose an album from a different event day, the app stops the action and tells you that photos can only be added to an album from the same event day. This keeps photos aligned with the event they were shot at.
Filtering before you select
The Search Photos panel already lets you narrow your photos by Album, bib number, and other criteria before you enter selection mode. Filter to a single album first, then use Select All, and you have a fast way to clear out or move an entire album’s worth of photos.
This pairs well with the Bibs filter if you use auto capture. Set Bibs to Untagged, and the page shows only photos with no bib numbers on them. Once your tagging is done, those are usually the empty shots. Enter selection mode, click Select All, and delete them in one action.
If you have not tried it, RaceDay Mobile can capture photos automatically at a set interval for a set duration. Set a device at the finish line, let it shoot, and use the bulk tools here to clean up afterward.
One caution before you do that: Untagged means no bib numbers have been added yet, not that the photo is empty. If tagging is still in progress, untagged photos may well have participants in them. Review before you delete.
If you use photo-based timing
Photo-based timing turns bib-tagged photos into timing reads, so your photos may be doing double duty as timing data. Keep that in mind before you bulk delete. The confirmation popup warns you that all tagged bib numbers will be removed along with the photos.
Filtering to Untagged before you select is the safer habit here. Untagged photos carry no bib numbers, so they are not the ones your reads came from.
What has not changed
To set expectations, here is what this release does not cover.
- Bulk download is not included. This release covers deleting and adding to albums only. This is in the works, and will be coming soon.
- Selecting a range with a click and shift-click is not included. You select photos one at a time, or use Select All.
- Bulk actions live in Advanced Mode only. Basic Mode still handles one photo at a time, including its existing Delete Photo and Change Album options.
