We recently were approved by the telecom carriers to have our own Short Code to support results notifications and emergency txt services for races. We have been using a shared short code service provider. Having our own short code assures us of having the highest bandwidth available as well as continual service from all mobile telecom vendors. This makes sure that on a busy Saturday or Sunday morning, there is no delay in finishers getting their result notifications.
