2026 Timer Industry Survey Now Open

Timer Industry Survey now open

The 2026 Timer Industry Survey is open now through November 13, and we want to hear from every race timer, whatever hardware, scoring software or registration platform you use.

Now in its eighth year, the survey is the timing industry’s only study that focuses exclusively on the unique trends with timers. Most timers run their businesses without a clear view of what everyone else is doing: what others charge, how they find and keep staff, which technology is catching on and what’s holding people back. Each year, your answers fill in that picture so every timer can see where the industry is headed and how their own business compares.

What the 2026 Survey Covers

Most of the survey is about the business of timing:

  • Pricing: how timers charge, minimum fees, add-on services and how they handle races with smaller budgets
  • Business operations: event volume, types of events, new services and what timers offer beyond timing
  • Staffing: team size, the roles timers rely on and creative ways timers are tackling staffing challenges
  • Technology: timing hardware, scoring software, backup solutions and Bluetooth chip timing
  • Participant tracking: GPS tracking, split alerts and newer approaches like predictive pace and photo-based timing
  • Challenges and what’s next: the biggest changes timers face and the tools that would help most

There is also a section for timers who use RunSignup’s RaceDay Real-Time technology for us to get feedback on the technology. If you don’t use RaceDay tools, the survey skips that section automatically.

Results Shared With All Timers

We share what we learn with the whole timing community. Once the survey closes, the combined findings will show timers and race directors where the industry stands on pricing, staffing and technology, so you can benchmark your business and spot opportunities to grow.

Highlights will appear in RunSignup’s annual Race Trends Report and at the 2027 Timer Education Summit on February 23–24 at USF Health CAMLS in Tampa, Florida.

The more timers who respond, the more accurate and useful the results are for everyone, so please share the survey with other timers you know.
