The Space Coast Marathon opened up registration this morning on RunSignUp. This is a sell out race, and what was interesting is the way they handled registration.
Like the Spring Lake 5, they wanted to give a first chance to last year’s participants. And like the Spring Lake 5, they emailed a password to last year’s participants. In addition, they wanted to make sure that only previous participants were really allowed into the race on the first day of registration.
To achieve this, we worked closely with them and created a “Club” and imported all of last year’s finishers into the Club. Since RunSignUp Registration and Clubs are closely tied together, we can do a check to make sure the person signing up is a member of the club.
This actually fit perfectly with their “Big Bang Series” which is a program to give runners who complete either 3 or 5 Space Coast Marathons in 5 years a special medal. So they actually set up 2 “Clubs” – one for last year’s finishers and one for people doing the Big Bang.
They are getting rave reviews on Facebook for making things easy for their loyal customers, as you can see in the posts below.
And of course we are happy to report the RunSignUp scalability worked great as usual with over 600 registrations in the first 10 minutes of opening and a 2.5 second average response time for users.
