Technology Really Does Matter

Most people do not understand technology, which is fine. The problem is that many people translate that into not valuing technology or the complexity behind the many simple uses of the web and mobile apps they see every day.

This winds up being a risk for race directors when it comes to evaluating registration systems. They assume all systems are always available and never crash under heavy load. The reality is it is very, very hard to really implement things like a system that only has 8 minutes of downtime in a year.  It is very, very hard to build a system that will do 50,000 registrations in 7 minutes. Even far larger companies than RunSignup, like Ticketmaster’s many documented issues, do not have these capabilities. Much less many small endurance registration providers.

This can result in having your runners post pictures like this on your Facebook page:

Of course this only applies to fast sell-out races. But their are countless areas where technology matters to a race. Remember, the registration website is your face to your customers.
