RaceDay Scoring V6 is here, delivering a major performance upgrade for race timers. Built on a multi-year architecture rebuild in Rust, V6 operates as a self-driving data engine that handles heavy background processing in sub-50 milliseconds—keeping your interface lightning-fast and instantly responsive even at your largest events.

A Deliberate, Step-by-Step Architecture Evolution
Rather than patching legacy code, our engineering team transitioned RaceDay Scoring to Rust—a modern language built specifically for high-speed processing and memory safety. To protect timer operations on race day, we executed this transition in deliberate, incremental phases:
- 2023: Read processing migrated to Rust.
- 2024–2025 (V5): Completed a full rewrite of the scoring engine, released in March 2025.
- 2026 (RaceDay Scoring V6): Migrated output report rendering and real-time incremental data pushing into the multi-threaded Rust architecture.
RaceDay Scoring V6 Tested and Validated at Scale
To ensure rock-solid stability, V6 was validated using real-time data replays from major spring 2026 events featuring over 30,000 participants.
- Sub-50ms Background Processing: Even while absorbing thousands of chip reads, split points, and outbound result pushes, background tasks completed in as little as 50 milliseconds.
- Zero Interface Lag: Timers can open custom reports, edit participant details, and adjust timing logic mid-race without ever waiting on the software to catch up.
More Than Scoring: A Real-Time Self-Driving Data Exchange
RaceDay Scoring was engineered to serve as the central hub for the entire race ecosystem. We didn’t set out to build just another standalone scoring program—we built RaceDay Scoring to serve as the central engine for multiple purposes. By placing scoring at the hub, data flows and synchronizes automatically across our entire technology suite in real time. We built what is effectively a self-driving data exchange so the software does the heavy lifting between systems, taking the manual burden off timers so they can focus on what they do best.

V6 automatically synchronizes data back and forth across RunSignup’s full technology suite, including live results, photo-based timing reads, participant-tagged photos, check-in management, and RaceJoy predictive chip tracking. Specifically, RaceDay Scoring seamlessly integrates real-time with the following RunSignup RaceDay technology:
- RaceDay Results
- RaceDay CheckIn app (bib assignments, participant information changes, etc.)
- RaceDay Mobile app (photo-based timing, announcer mode, backup timing)
- RaceJoy (photo-based tracking and chip-based predictive tracking)
Sustained Investment in the Timer Community
RaceDay Scoring V6 anchors our broader mission to empower timers with free and low-cost technology. Beyond software development, RunSignup continues to support timers through:
- The annual Timer Conference (to be held February 23, 24, 2027 in Tampa)
- Timer Certification Program
- Continuous Timer Tip Tuesday educational webinars
- Monthly Timer newsletter
- The annual Timer Research Survey
- Workshop Wednesdays and personalized training
- Dedicated 1-on-1 support staff available when race day demands it most
Our support staff is talented team of timers and software developers who understand the unique needs and challenges of timers.
New to RaceDay Scoring? Here’s What You Need to Know
For those unfamiliar with the platform, RaceDay Scoring is RunSignup’s flexible scoring software built to handle events of any shape or size. It handles everything from simple local 5Ks to marathons, triathlons, relays, aggregate team scoring, lap events, cross country, trail, ultras, and cycling.
Designed to be easy for new timers to learn while giving experienced timers deep custom logic, the platform features:
- Proven at Scale: Built and battle-tested to score major events with more than 40,000 participants.
- Hardware & Registration Agnostic: Works with any timing hardware or registration provider, and is a recognized MYLAPS and RACE RESULT scoring partner in the Americas.
- Offline-Capable Reliability: Score completely offline without an internet connection, paired with cloud backups, bidirectional registration sync, and built-in checks that flag errors like duplicate bibs before publishing.
- Connected Event Technology: Integrates directly with RaceJoy for live predictive chip tracking and uses photo-based timing to turn bib-tagged phone photos into timing reads.
Whether you score local 5Ks or complex, high-volume events with 40,000+ runners, RaceDay Scoring V6 delivers the speed, scale, and automation needed to execute high quality events.
