Event Showcase for Race Websites V2

A running club puts on a spring 5K, a Tuesday night track series through the summer, and a Thanksgiving 10K. A timing company works with forty races across three counties. A charity runs one marathon and eleven small fundraiser races around it. Every RunSignup race comes with a free race website, and that website now includes the Event Showcase for race websites, a dynamic event list that displays the races you choose, picks up new ones as you create them, and moves each race into your past races after it is run.

The Event Showcase extends the Event List component you already use, which keeps working exactly as it does today. What is new is the setup behind it: you build a saved list once in your dashboard, then apply it wherever you want it on your website. No subscription, no plugin, and no developer time.

Build the List Once

Go to Website V2 >> Event List Display and click Add Event List. Give it a name under Name Your List, and RunSignup pulls in every race and ticket event under the payment account attached to your race.

That payment account connection is what makes the list dynamic. Set up next season’s race under the same payment account and it shows up in your showcase on its own, with no boxes to check and nothing to re-save. Each race’s position is calculated from its date every time your page loads, so races move from upcoming to past on their own too.

Decide How Past Races Show

The Past Events setting controls what your showcase covers:

  • Include past events. Your page displays both, as tabs labeled Upcoming Events and Past Events with a count on each. Every past race card carries a Results button that links straight to that race’s results.
  • Exclude past events. Only what is open or still to come.
  • Only show past events. A race history page that fills itself in, useful for an anniversary year or a results archive.

Then Get as Specific as You Want

Every race in the list has a checkbox, so you can carve out anything you would rather not display. A club that runs public races and members-only time trials through the same payment account can show the races and leave the time trials off. Clear All empties the list to start from a blank slate, and Total events in this list keeps a running count as you work.
The Import Events panel adds races beyond that payment account:

  • Partners. Enter an Import Partner ID and every publicly visible race and ticket event from that partner comes in together, and keeps coming in as they add more.
  • Timers. Enter an Import Timer ID to pull in all of that timer’s races. Your race’s own partner and timer are included from the start.
  • Events. Enter an Import Race ID or Import Ticket Event ID and click Apply to add one specific event, including one held under a different account.
  • Location. Choose a distance of 5, 10, 25, 50, or 100 miles from a zip code to include every race in that radius, which is how a running store, a state association, or a tourism bureau can list a whole region.

If your organization has more than one payment account, the Payment Accounts checkboxes let you decide which accounts feed the showcase. A single showcase holds up to 2,000 events.

A Different Showcase on Each Page

Build as many as you need, then choose one per component. In the Website Builder -> Event List component, open the settings popup, pick your showcase under Event List Configuration, choose an Event Layout Style of List or Grid, and click Update.

One website can show your whole series on a landing page, this season’s races on the homepage, and past races with results on a history page, each pulling from its own saved showcase.

With the Event Showcase, your free race website can more easily:

  • Stay current without edits. New races appear and finished races move on their own.
  • Send finishers to the next start line. Runners who came for one race can see the next four.
  • Put results one click away. Past race cards link to results without you building a page for it.
  • Promote the wider running community. Pull in a partner, a timer, or every race within 25 miles.

The Event Showcase is available now for race websites, Organization Websites, and club websites. It provides a foundation to add more display options, including calendars and more results views. Your race website is free. Every component on it, the Event Showcase included, comes at no cost to your race.
