Early Turkey Trot Numbers are Encouraging

We did a quick check-in on how some of the data is looking this year so far for registration (November 7, 2022). We have been tracking how far races have recovered post pandemic. We also have done an annual wrap-up after turkey trots are done.

Last year there were 617,000 participants across 640 Turkey Trots on our platform. So far this year there are 366,000 and 697 events.

More importantly, we took some samples to compare this year and 2021, which was a pretty successful season before Omicron really came on the scene in December to really shut things down coming into 2022.

Top 20 Trots

The Top 20 Turkey Trots on our platform (in both 2021 and 2022) have 88,786 participants so far, compared with 78,914 in 2021 – a 13% increase. Only 3 out of the 20 saw a decrease in participant count.

1,000 Registration Trots

We sampled 10 turkey trots from the 98 Trots over 1,000 participants so far. Those 10 turkey trots have 13,031 participants to date, compared with 11,437 participants in 2021 – a 14% increase. Only 1 of those Trots had a decrease in participant count.

500 Registration Trots

We also sampled 10 Trots that currently have about 500 participants (there are a total of 212 Trots over 500 so far). Those 10 had a total of 5,140 participants this year, compared with 4,448 last year, a 16% increase. However, 4 of the 10 are down compared with last year.

250 Registration Trots

We sampled 10 Trots that currently have about 250 participants (there are a total of 226 Trots over 250 so far). Those 10 had a total of 2,595 participants this year, compared with 1,831 last year, a 42% increase. However, 2 of the 10 are down compared with last year.

We will do our next update shortly after Thanksgiving with all the details. Hoping these early trends hold up!
