We assembled a preliminary list of the 2025 Top 100 Largest Races in the US that were timed. We have been compiling this list for a couple of years (see 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024).
A few notes:
- This data is total finishers based on public results data for all events for each race weekend (I.E. total of 5K, 10K, Half and Full).
- This data does not include untimed events. Therefore, many large P2P events and untimed Turkey Trots are not included. Distances under 2 miles are not included in the totals.
- There is no single aggregator of timing data, and while we try to be thorough, we may have missed some races or found incomplete data. If you see missing or incorrect data, please let us know at eric@runsignup.com. The last updates were made on 1/9/2026 at 11:39am.

2025 Top 100 Largest Races List
Large races had the slowest recovery from COVID 19, and the patterns in the Top 100 remain slightly changed. The total number of participants represented in the 2025 Top 100 Largest Races increased compared to 2019; however, that increase is not evenly distributed, with much of that growth coming from the very largest races.
- 75 races on the 2025 Top 100 Largest Races list had more participants in 2025 than in 2024. On average races grew 6.5% compared to last year.
- More than half (52) of the 2025 Top 100 Largest Races exceeded their 2019 participation. On average, races were 5.2% larger in 2025 than 2019.
- The 2025 Top 100 Largest Races list had 1,921,611 finishers, just slightly ahead of the 1,874,586 from the 2019 list.
- In 2019, the 100th largest race had 9,456 finishers. In 2022 it was just 6,115. In 2025, the 100th largest race was back up to 8,948
- In 2019, 33 races exceeded 20,000 participants, with just 16 races over 20,000 in 2022. In 2025, 37 races exceeded 20,000 finishers.
On average, races grew from 2023-2024 and exceeded their 2019 registration levels.
- From 2024 to 2025, the races that grew the most were the Marine Corps Marathon (38%), Rocky Run (36%), Rodeo Run (36%), Portland Marathon (33%) and the Manchester Road Race (31%).
- From 2019 to 2025, the race that has grown the most NYCRUNS Brooklyn Half Marathon (325%), followed by the Rocky Run (167%) and the Charlotte Marathon (157%).

Registration Platforms and the 2025 Top 100 Largest Races
More than half of all the races on the 2025 Top 100 Largest Races list use one of three major registration platform.
- RunSignup leads with the most races on the 2025 Top 100 Largest Races. While we work with races of all sizes, this is in line with RunSignup’s overall endurance market share of ~50%, with more than 12 million participants in 30,000 races in 2025.
- Haku heavily targets larger races with a strategy that includes building custom solutions and providing on-site personnel. This is a less scalable, higher cost model that some large races believe they need.
- Race Roster has aggressively pursued large races since their acquisition by Asics. It remains to be seen what will happen between Race Roster and Njuko (also owned by Asics) given the inefficiencies inherent in managing and upgrading two registration platforms at once.
- Additionally, 13 races used some type of custom or in-house software.
What’s Changed Since 2024
There are 11 new races in the 2025 Top 100 Largest Races. These include:
- Three new races; one that took the place of a discontinued Rock ‘n’ Roll race and two that were a part of a growing race series.
- Eight races that grew 12%-36% from 2024 to 2025

Summary
The 2025 Top 100 Largest Races make up just a sliver of the endurance industry (1.9 Million participants vs the 11.2 Million who registered in total on RunSignup alone). However, they have an outsized impact on the perception of the running industry and hold a unique cultural position. Large races struggled the most to rebound from COVID-19, likely the most impacted by travel costs and hesitancy to make commitments. It’s encouraging to see the Top 100 booming again and getting people excited about running events.
Most races are small, and most race participants are running in community events, not the very largest ones. In our upcoming 2025 Trends Report, we found:
- 95% of all event distances have fewer than 500 participants
- The 1,921,611 total participants from the 2025 Top 100 Largest Races is likely only 7-8% of total race participants in the US.
Regardless of size, we recommend races embrace technology to ensure a memorable race experience. Put in the behind-the-scenes work to ensure seamless packet pickup, reliable runner tracking, accurate real-time scoring, and near-instant photos tagged by bibs. Little details ensure runners walk away feeling an event was worth it’s cost – and will bring them back year after year.
