Fast Registration – Saving Giveaway Preferences

As part of our project to make registration as fast as possible, we have introduced a way to save Giveaway Preferences. The idea is save a participants preference for Giveaway Shirt Size and auto-fill that when they sign up for their next race.

We have a standard set of sizes that we save in each user’s profile:

To make this easier to implement, we have a standard set of sizes in RunSignup for Unisex/Male and Female. For example, my daughter has the following preference:

If the race is offering a Female shirt, then it will pick a Female Medium, but if there is only one type, it will pick the Unisex/Male Small.

When a race selects to offer Giveaways, we provide the following default sizes. Note we have added a new column on the right that enables a race to map your sizes the the standard ones RunSignup has. Here is an example where the race will list a “Small” as one of the options on their race page. This is mapped to the standard sizes inside RunSignup. For example, if a female had ordered a Female M in a previous race, we would display the “Small” option by default when they were registering for the race:

You will need to map all of your sizes to the appropriate size. Here is the standard setup when you add a Giveaway Shirt option:

You can set up your own mapping.  For example, you might want to add multiple sizes by clicking the green “Add Another” under the Standard Size field:

Of course if you offer Male and Female sizes, set those up appropriately and only have one matching standard size:

We have done a database migration that has tried to do an automated match between the shirt sizes your race offers and our standard sizes. If your descriptions were not similar to things like Medium and M, then we would not be able to do the match. You should review your setup when you have a chance.

We have also done a database migration to set up default sizes for many users based on what they ordered from previous races.

This gives many users and races a quick start on making registration faster.
