Enabling Whitelabeling is one of the best ways to improve email deliverability. It allows you to send through your own domain name, rather than sending with RunSignUp’s default settings. By placing your domain information into the emails rather than the default settings, recipients are able to verify that these mailings are associated directly with your domain. This allows recipients to begin building trust around your emails. By adding the capability to allow our users to Whitelabel their email marketing accounts, RunSignUp hopes to continue to help increase email deliverability and brand consistency.
NOTE: This is an advanced feature for more sophisticated customers who manage their own website and domain name.
How to enable Whitelabeling on an Email account in RunSignUp
Once you have an Email Marketing account within RunSignUp’s system, you will go to the “Manage Email Settings” on the account’s dashboard to access it’s settings. Your first step will be to set your email account’s “Reply To” email address to the domain you’d like to setup for Whitelabeling.
After you have set your reply to address, you are ready to begin the process of Whitelabeling. On the right hand side of the manage email settings page, you’ll see a button to begin the Whitelabeling process…
On the first step of enabling the Whitelabeling process, you’ll be prompted to enter an email domain for Whitelabeling and an email link for Whitelabeling, as well as confirm you are able to update DNS records for the domain you wish to Whitelabel…
Once you have set these subdomains (The supplied defaults can be used in the vast majority of cases) and confirmed you have access to update the DNS records, you will be shown a table with the DNS records that you need to install to verify you have control of the domain.
After installation of the CNAME records on your DNS provider, you can click “Validate Now” and RunSignUp will confirm these records have been installed. Please note that it can take up to 48 hours for DNS records to update, so you may have to try again in a day or two if validation fails after initial installation. Once you have validated your DNS settings emails sent through that email-marketing account <comma> emails will be sent from your domain, rather than via RunSignUp or our email service provider SendGrid.
Common DNS Provider Examples (GoDaddy)
To update a GoDaddy domain, first login to your GoDaddy account and go to your “My Products” page to list your GoDaddy products. Under the “Domains” drop down, click on the “Manage DNS” button…
The next page will list the DNS records associated with the domain. At the bottom right of the list of records there will be an “Add” button that will allow you to add new domain records.
Once you have selected to add a domain record, you can enter each of the values provided by the table in RunSignUp. Be sure to select the “CNAME” as the type of record to add to the system, and then place the bold part of the “Record Name” table from RunSignUp into the “Host” field and the “Value” field from the RunSignUp table into the “Points to” option on GoDaddy.
Common DNS Provider Examples (Amazon Web Services)
First, login to your Amazon AWS account and navigate to your Web Services Console. From the AWS console select the “Route 53” option to open DNS Management.
Once you have selected route 53, you can then select the “Hosted Zones” option on the left-hand navigation to pull up your list of hosted zones.
From there, you can select the domain that you wish to add the records.
Once you have selected the hosted zone that you are adding the records to, click on the “Create Record Set” button to start creating a new record.
When creating a new records set, enter the bold part of the “Record Name” from RunSignUp into the “Name” field of the new record. Be sure to select the “CNAME” record from the type drop down to set the record type correctly. Then enter the “Value” field from the RunSignUp table into the “Value” field in the record creation. Once all values have been entered into the form, click on the “Create” button to create the record to add it to the Hosted Zone. After all CNAME records have been added you can begin the validation process within RunSignUp.
