RunSignup has always made it easy for users to claim and merge accounts. We’ve improved both the claiming and merging process for participants, members, and fundraisers. Claiming now works across the RunSignup platform as well as for an individual race. This makes it easy for the 8 Million+ people who sign up for events each year to keep all their past and present information in one place with one login. As we continue to invest in next-generation membership and GiveSignup for peer-to-peer fundraising events, we are creating software that makes it easy for both organizations and their members/supporters to transition to RunSignup and GiveSignup.
We automatically prevent duplicate accounts with the same email when there is a password. However, users may be able to claim and merge accounts if they registered for an event without setting a password, have multiple accounts associated with different email addresses, and/or were imported.
General Claiming Improvements
We made a number of improvements to general account claiming, including:
- Users can more easily verify multiple email addresses. They only need to verify their email one time to claim multiple accounts associated with that email.
- Quick claiming gives easy options to merge users. For example, users can merge an unclaimed account with their primary account, add as a secondary account, or merge with an existing secondary account on their profile.
- Users can easily do multiple claims without having to navigate to the page again. We handle claim requests with AJAX now to reduce clicks and keep claiming on a single page.
- Sometimes users merge accounts with different information (such as two different email addresses). We automatically detect significant data differences and require the user to confirm the changes.
Claiming for a Single Race
Note: This is only applicable for events that imported historic data that’s relevant to current registrations. For example, a race that switched to RunSignup mid-registration and needs imported participants to manage their own registration details.
We’ve added an option to claim accounts within a single race. Navigate to Promotion >> Links. At the bottom there is a quick claim option.
This is the same as the general claiming above, but limits the available data to claim to participant and fundraiser data for that specific event rather than the entire RunSignup platform.
If the user is logged in and they have previously verified the email address associated with any claimable accounts, they can immediately claim those accounts. If they have not verified the email address, they can claim after verifying the email address. In both of these cases, they can merge with the primary user, create a new child user, or merge with an existing child user. If the user is not logged in as shown below, they go through the general claim accounts flow. This allows them to create a new account and link the claimable data to that new account.
Users can easily consolidate all their platform and/or race data in a single profile. As we invest in next-generation membership and GiveSignup for peer-to-peer fundraising events, we are creating software that makes it easy for both organizations and their members/supporters to transition to RunSignup and GiveSignup.
