RunSignup, TicketSignup, GiveSignup: Which Product is Right For Your Event?

As a company, RunSignup is fully focused creating the comprehensive, end-to-end event technology that event directors deserve. To meet the wildly different needs of different types of events, RunSignup offers three separate technology products:

All three platforms are built on the same infrastructure and core technology. This means they share powerful components like free email marketing and free event websites. Additionally, RunSignup, TicketSignup, and GiveSignup all use the same strict security and payment requirements and are PCI Level 1 compliant. However, there are clear differences in the functionality of the platforms that can help you decide what platform is right for your event.

What Events Should Use RunSignup Registration?

RunSignup registration is our first product, released in 2010. RunSignup is most commonly used for endurance event registrations such as road races, ultra marathons, bike tours, triathlons, swim races, and more. However, non-endurance events can and do opt for RunSignup for it’s powerful registration tools.

The main differentiator for RunSignup registration compared to our other products is that registrations are for people. Registration is typically the right solution when you care who is coming to your event (not just how many people) and expect multiple interactions between your event and the participants.

If your event meets one or more of the criteria below, RunSignup registration is likely the best solution for your event:

  • Significant Information Collection: Your event requires more participant data, such as age, gender, and a signed waiver.
  • Collect Information on ALL Participants: Your event requires details (like name and the information above) on every person coming, not just the purchaser (even if multiple people sign up in a single transaction).
  • Repeat Interaction: Your event has reasons for participants to come back to your event website repeatedly, such as to view results and photos or to manage their registration by changing event, giveaway size, or more.
  • Team Participation: Your event has team participation, with the ability for participants to create and/or join social or competitive teams.
  • Endurance-Specific Options: Your event wants to post native event results, offer a full-functionality virtual challenge, enable RaceJoy Runner Tracking, assign corrals, or a host of other technology solutions designed specifically for endurance events.
  • Event Timer Collaboration: Your event has an event timer who needs to easily access participant data for timing, results, and photos while limiting their overall access to the race.

What Events Should Use TicketSignup Ticketing?

TicketSignup ticketing is for a wide range of events from large-scale festivals to small training runs and everything in between. In general, tickets is the solution when you care about the speed of purchase and the tickets sold (not who holds that ticket). While you can collect additional information on ticket purchasers and ticket holders, ticket events typically require little information about who is using that ticket.

If your event meets one or more of the criteria below, TicketSignup Tickets is likely the best solution for your event:

  • Quick Purchase: Your event prioritizes easy, fast purchase over detailed information. Account logins aren’t required, and the information you need on each ticket purchaser is more limited. In many cases, you don’t need any information on each ticket holder.
  • Bulk Ticket Purchases Likely: Your event is open to large group purchases, with a single purchaser buying multiple tickets for themselves and unidentified additional people.

There are actually two options for TicketSignup events and you will identify the right type for your event on the first page when you create your ticket events. These options are:

Simple Ticket Events

TicketSignup’s simple ticket event platform provides a flexible ticketing option for events. Simple ticket events are commonly used for:

  • General admission festivals like many music festivals, beer & wine festivals, food festivals, and more
  • Nonprofit events like golf tournaments, dinner events, and voting contests.
  • Spectator tickets and parking for events like track & cross country meets

Calendar-Based MTE Timed Entry Ticketing

TicketSignup’s patent-pending, calendar-based solution is for multi-day, timed entry events that benefit from a calendar-driven approach to schedule setup, ticket purchase, reporting, and more. Calendar-Based Timed Entry Ticketing is commonly used for:

  • Seasonal holiday events like holiday lights tours and Halloween haunts
  • On-going scheduled events like escape rooms and farm tours
  • Timed entry festivals with specific time slots and days for entry

What Events Should Use GiveSignup for Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Events

GiveSignup is for events that incorporate peer-to-peer fundraising. Unlike the separate wizards for TicketSignup versus RunSignup events, GiveSignup events are built on the same registration technology as RunSignup events. This means you do not have to do anything special to “switch” from RunSignup to GiveSignup. Instead, simply enable and customize your peer-to-peer fundraising!

If your event meets one or more of the criteria below, GiveSignup Peer-to-Peer Fundraising is likely the best solution for your event:

  • Peer-to-peer fundraising: That’s it. That’s the criteria. If your event uses peer-to-peer fundraising technology, GiveSignup is the solution for you.

However, there’s no requirement to define yourself as a GiveSignup or RunSignup event. For all events, both the “givesignup.org” and “runsignup.com” versions of your URLs will work exactly the same. Both https://runsignup.com/Race/FL/Tampa/milesformoffitt and https://givesignup.org/Race/FL/Tampa/milesformoffitt have the same functionality. So while we, internally might consider your event a GiveSignup event because you are using Peer-to-Peer fundraising, you can opt to publicly use RunSignup or GiveSignup (or your own custom domain).
