RunSignup Releases 2016 Registration Trends Report with Tips for Race Growth

Moorestown, NJ –

RunSignup released their First Annual Registration Trends Report at the Running USA Industry Conference on Sunday. Using registration data mined from the 31,000+ events on RunSignup in 2015 and 2016, this report offers a comprehensive look at events – both traditional running races, and broadly defined next generation endurance events that are often untimed. Interestingly, events that were on RunSignup in both 2015 and 2016 saw an overall growth of 0.5%, indicating that while the market is competitive there is room for races to increase participation.

Areas covered by the report include:

  • Are Races Growing?
  • When do Runners SignUp?
  • What is the Best Day for an Event?
  • What do Races Charge?
  • What are the Gender and Age Trends
  • How Effective are Pricing Strategies?
  • How Effective are Marketing Strategies?
  • How do Races Maximize Donations?
  • How Much Revenue is Generated by Store Items?
  • Where (On the Web) Do Runners Come From?
  • How Many Participants SignUp on Mobile?

The report does offer basic demographic and pricing data, but it also dives deeper to provide practical takeaways that race directors can use to drive successful strategies for increasing participation and revenue. For example, race directors can use incentivized groups and teams to take advantage of the social aspect of running, and should get people involved via an email marketing strategy with strong calls to action. However, the most effective marketing strategy evaluated in the study was clearly implementing a Referral Rewards, a program that accounted for $2,765,664 collected in registrations dollars but only $5,607 spent on Refunds (to all races using Referral Rewards).

RunSignup will be looking to iterate on and grow this report in coming years, and hopes to include aggregated data from multiple registration companies in the future. To view the full 2016 report, go to: https://runsignup.com/trends.
