Coronavirus Impact on Races Week 16

Please see RunSignup.com/ChallengePlatformRunSignup.com/GoVirtualLooking Forward: Guidelines for Races, and RunSignup.com/Coronavirus for recommendations and tools.

Things continue to evolve as of May 17, 2020 from Week 1514131211109876543 and 2 of the Coronavirus.

The transaction volume we saw the past week is 23% lower than the same week last year vs. last week down 33%.

We’ve included two charts showing the total $ amount of transactions flowing thru our system on a weekly basis both pre and post Coronavirus. The first is a simple %, and the second is the actual transactions per week on our platform. For example, this past week was $3,112,069 vs. $4,021,803 last year. Also, you can see we were having a great year (up 29%) before the virus, so this does not represent the community as a whole…

The other point is that of that lower volume, of the 20 top races over the past week:

  • 9 are virtual races
  • 9 are challenges
  • 2 are real races scheduled for the fall

Real Races

We had the Salem Stanley and his team from Vacation Races on our webinar this past week talking about how they put on a 600 and 800 person race the previous two weekends. It is very impressive to hear how the team came up with solutions to meet safety standards, permit requirements and participant satisfaction. It bodes well for the future our our larger endurance and event community.

Virtual Symposium

Our RunSignup Virtual Symposium is only one week away! Sign up today – only $30 – and get some cool swag (yeah, we know some of you have so much swag you don’t want it – so we will give a discount if you don’t want it).

The 2020 Virtual Symposium is a lightweight, all online, version of our bi-annual educational symposiums for race directors, timers, and nonprofits. The virtual edition will focus on education to help race organizers now, with an emphasis on virtual options and modified events – but with lessons you can carry back to “normal” events as well.

The Symposium will have five main components:

  • General sessions for everyone
  • Breakout sessions for specific types of users – Race Directors, Nonprofits and Timers
  • A RaceDay Scoring and RaceJoy Certification for timers
  • Round-Table Discussions
  • An interactive morning run with a setup demo and post-run debrief
