How AI Can Help RunSignup Customers

As a technology-first company, we understand that it’s crucial to keep up with the latest advancements and to work with new technology. As such, we’re dedicated to understanding how AI can help us, and in turn, the tens of thousands of events on RunSignup.

More Features, Faster

By encouraging our developers to work with AI, they can increase their productivity 20% while maintaining our strict security standards. That means 20% more features for your events. From free race websites to unlimited email to RaceDay tools, look forward to more capabilities than ever.

Personalized Learning

Race directing is hard, and learning new technology can take time. We’re experimenting with multiple AI Agents, all trained specifically on our support documentation, that can help you find answers and learn the backend of RunSignup faster and more efficiently.

Customer Development

Combining our Open API with AI makes it easier than ever for customers to develop their own dashboards, applications and customer engagement mechanisms using AI tools. This means the capability of building and deploying your own results pages, event lists, fundraising leaderboards, and more.

RunSignup AI: Vibe Coding Custom Web Applications

RunSignup has always had an open API, allowing customers to use data in custom ways through Zapier or custom integrations. AI introduces a new set of tools that can generate code through a conversation with a model, some of them with a deployment environment. The options for this are endless, allowing customers to build applications, reports, dashboards, and integrations without detailed coding knowledge. A few examples, all built in short timelines with the v0.dev tool can be seen below.

RunSignup AI: Interacting with ChatGPT via MCP

(Coming Soon)

“The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that enables developers to build secure, two-way connections between their data sources and AI-powered tools. The architecture is straightforward: developers can either expose their data through MCP servers or build AI applications (MCP clients) that connect to these servers.”

Find Events MCP:
Educating ChatGPT About Where & When Races Are

RunSignup will have our first MCP over the summer of 2025. We will start with the Find Events MCP so that our customers can get maximum benefit from the emerging AI search. This is implemente via our new OpenAPI and OAuth 2 implementation, making public data generally and easily available.

This means ChatGPT will be able to access our public race information to understand when and where races are happening. With AI quickly emerging as the third marketplace (along with Google & Meta), this ensures that your race will be found when a local runner asks “What races are in Pasadena next weekend?”

Secure MCP:
Querying ChatGPT About Your Race Data

RunSignup will implement secure MCP interfaces to our platform. Private information and functionality done on a Dashboard will require login as it always has. Additionally, private data will not leak into the general LLM.

This means race directors will be able to utilize ChatGPT to query their race information for fast, targeted reports that supplement RunSignup’s built in reporting. For example, a race can get detailed information about demographic changes from one year to the next or evaluate patterns in donations throughout the race cycle.

Beta AI Agent: Your RunSignup Tutor

One of the greatest assets of AI is it’s ability to actually make people smarter by tutoring them through specific material. Currently, we are experimenting with several AI Agents (chatbots) to see which models are the most useful. In all iterations, we have trained the AI Agent specifically on our help documentation, video content, and resources. Looking for help with a specific feature or wondering if we have a specific tool? Ask an AI Agent for help!

Today, our agent is in beta while we get it up to speed.

Beta Prototype ‘Agent Echo’ can be found as a widget on the lower right corner of our support page (accessed from the link below)

Don’t worry: our human agents aren’t going anywhere! The AI Agents are an easy place to ask a question you might think is too simple email in (no question is dumb to AI!) and a good first step to help you learn for itself. But, in addition to helping train the AI Agents and create documentation, every question can still be easily escalated to a (living) member of our US-based support team.

Like one agent more than the other? Have feedback on the interaction? We’d love to know! Email us at info@runsignup.com with your feedback.
