Backing the Backbone: RunSignup’s Investment in Timers

The technology, training, and support behind the people who make races happen.

Timers are the backbone of the endurance industry, providing races with technical guidance and race-day logistics that go far beyond scoring and results. RunSignup heavy investment in timers focuses on enterprise-grade technology built specifically for timers—offered at free to minimal cost—and backs it with dedicated developers, open integrations, and year-round education. Equipped with RaceDay Real-Time technology, training, and highly responsive support, timers deliver exceptional race experiences.

Investment in Timers

A Development Team Dedicated to Timers

RunSignup employs a team of developers whose job is timer technology: RaceDay Scoring, RaceDay CheckIn, RaceJoy, RaceDay Photos, RaceDay Mobile, and the rest of the RaceDay Real-Time suite. The team continually pushes the evolution of technology to ensure timers have the latest and greatest — more than 600 product releases were issued in the second quarter of 2026 alone.

We are open about the economics. The fees we charge for timer technology do not come close to covering what we invest in it. We do this because RunSignup is a registration company. When timers have superior technology, races run better, race directors stay, and everyone’s business grows.

The Power of RaceDay Real-Time

RunSignup’s RaceDay Real-Time technology gives timers the software they need to deliver an efficient, engaging race experience from start to finish—before, during, and after race day. From the RaceDay CheckIn app to RaceDay Scoring, participant tracking, and RaceDay Photos, timers have one source for every tool their races require.

NOTE: Timers can use one RaceDay product, all of them, or mix in their own preferred tools. RunSignup’s open approach keeps timers independent and free to choose what works best for each race—though the real advantage comes from how seamlessly the RaceDay products work together.

RaceDay Scoring: Self-Driving Data Exchange Hub

The foundational RaceDay product is RaceDay Scoring, the scoring software most timers are now using. It’s easy for new timers to learn and flexible enough to handle the most complicated events. The recently launched RaceDay Scoring V6 delivers a substantial performance upgrade: it operates offline, handles heavy processing under load, scales from local 5Ks to 40,000+ participant marathons, and integrates with all major chip hardware.

RaceDay Scoring also serves as the central engine for the entire event. By placing scoring at the hub, data flows and synchronizes automatically across our technology suite in real time—a self-driving data exchange that does the heavy lifting between systems and takes the manual burden off timers. When a change happens anywhere—a bib reassignment at packet pickup, a participant switching from the 10K to the 5K—scoring, results, tracking, photos, and the announcer feed all reflect it within seconds. No manual syncing, no importing, no exporting. It just works.

Investment in Timers: Training, Support & Recognition

Beyond the software, RunSignup invests in the education and success of timers through training, highly responsive support, and recognition. From ongoing Timer Tip Tuesday webinars and one-on-one sessions to our annual Timer Summit, we’re focused on giving timers the resources they need to succeed.

Beyond Software investment in timers

RunSignup’s Timer Certification program includes four self-paced courses: RaceDay Scoring, RaceDay CheckIn, RaceJoy, and the RunSignup platform. Certified timers earn official certification status and a badge, and RaceJoy certified timers can resell RaceJoy to their races. Our annual Timer Education Summit is a two-day on-site event with introductory and advanced tracks, live tech demos, and networking. The 2027 Summit is February 23–24 in Tampa, and timers can register here.

An Open Approach and Hardware Integration

We built the RaceDay technology to work with the equipment and software timers already use, not replace them. RunSignup focuses on an open approach to technology so that timers have choices and can choose what is best for each event.

  • Hardware agnostic. RaceDay Scoring works with all timing hardware — MYLAPS, ChronoTrack, RACE RESULT, and other RFID systems. We do not sell hardware and we will not ask you to re-equip.
  • Open API. The RunSignup API is documented, open, and free for unrestricted use under the Apache license. Every major scoring software package has integrated with it, and we publish client libraries and examples on GitHub.
  • RACE RESULT integration. RunSignup registration data syncs directly into RACE RESULT 12, in both directions — participants, custom questions, team names, bib numbers, and race-morning bib assignments from the CheckIn app. A simple results integration is available for timers who only need results posted.
  • MYLAPS partnership. A recognized MYLAPS scoring partner in the Americas since 2021, RaceDay Scoring supports MYLAPS’ newest v2 and v3 APIs and has been part of the MYLAPS Cloud Timing beta from the start.
  • Everyone else. Hy-Tek, Webscorer, RaceClocker, NovusMage display boards, Zapier, and more. See the full integrations list.
