iTRI365 Scales Race Production with RaceDay Scoring

Overview

What began as a female-focused endurance coaching initiative in 2015 has grown into one of Texas’ most dynamic timing and event production companies. iTRI365’s evolution—from triathlon coaching, to timing, to directing annual events—reveals the entrepreneurial drive behind its success. At the heart of their operational upgrade is their switch to RunSignup (RSU) registration and RaceDay Scoring (RDS), allowing for scalable, streamlined race timing that meets the needs of modern event directors and participants.

Origins: Coaching Roots and Community Growth

iTRI365 was founded in 2015 with a focus on endurance coaching, catering primarily to women training for triathlons. A major obstacle for many was the open water swim (OWS) component. In response, iTRI365 introduced the Diva Du, a duathlon aimed at giving clients a tangible race goal en route to completing a full triathlon.

This event-centric pivot led to investments in race equipment and infrastructure. As interest grew beyond their coaching clients, the team realized the potential for event production services—a new leg of the business was born. Over time, coaching was phased out, and iTRI365 emerged as a full-service timing and event production company.

A Growing Portfolio of Events

Today, iTRI365 owns and operates two standout races:

Beyond these signature races, iTRI365 is involved with approximately 50 races annually, with a blend of owned, timed, and produced events. Their operations are supported by two owners (Cori Moore and Meredith Bryans), a general manager (Kayla Tillison), and a team of about 15 contractors.

Meet the Timer, General Manager: Kayla Tillison

Kayla Tillison, the company’s General Manager, brings deep passion and experience to the timing world. A seasoned runner and race director since 2017, she joined iTRI365 in December 2020. From organizing the Resurrection Run in Henderson, Texas to overseeing the logistics of dozens of events, Kayla embodies the company’s mission of excellence and inclusivity.

The Transition from Active Timing to RaceDay Scoring

From 2018 to 2024, iTRI365 relied on Active Timing (AT)—a platform built around IPICO hardware—for their timing needs. While AT offered useful features such as syncing hardware reads and viewing support tickets, the software fell short in key areas: poor integration with external registrations, limited flexibility, and complex workflows.

A pivotal moment came during a race where around 1,000 athletes changed distances without informing race officials. AT’s rigid system made these changes nearly impossible to track. Kayla recalled, “Folks should never switch distances without telling an official…but they do.” In search of a better solution, a Google search for “Timing software with start window” led them to RaceDay Scoring.

Embracing the RunSignup/RaceDay Scoring Ecosystem

Switching to RunSignup and RaceDay Scoring proved to be a game-changer. The bi-directional sync capabilities offered seamless data integration, a critical improvement over AT’s one-way sync. The interface was found to be “almost eerily simple” by Kayla and her team, reducing the learning curve significantly.

“RaceDay Scoring feels like home, whereas just a few months ago it was so foreign.”

They also highlighted the ease of using cloud backups, intuitive navigation, and in-app documentation and tooltips—features they found lacking in AT.

Advice for Timers Making the Switch

Kayla offered important insights for other timers transitioning from other scoring solutions to RaceDay Scoring:

  • Understand the Language Differences: The definitions of terms like “Race” and “Event” differ significantly between platforms.
  • Don’t Fear Change: Existing habits can cause “Timer Stockholm Syndrome,” but RaceDay Scoring simplifies workflows without requiring manuals.
  • Use the Resources: Take advantage of RaceDay Scoring’s certification program, one-on-one training, and robust documentation.
  • Train Your Team: iTRI365 recorded customized training sessions tailored to their specific hardware and race needs to build a resource library for contractors.

Key Differences:

  • Granular Control: RaceDay Scoring offers detailed settings like “Consider Start Times Until” and Segments support.
  • Feedback Tools: RaceDay Scoring provides reasons why a read was not used—crucial for accurate results.

Conclusion: A Winning Strategy for Growth

The transition to RunSignup’s RaceDay Scoring has empowered iTRI365 to operate more efficiently, support a wider client base, and confidently train new staff. With a platform that meets the evolving needs of their business, iTRI365 is well-positioned to deliver consistent, high-quality race experiences at scale.

For timers considering the switch to RaceDay Scoring, iTRI365 proves that the right tools can transform operations, enhance participant experiences, and lay a foundation for sustainable growth.
