Ultra Running Magazine Results API Integration

UltraRunning Magazine, known as “the voice of the sport” since 1981, has recently completed an integration with the RunSignup Results API to automate the population of results data on their free and open Ultra Results Listing service.

UltraRunning Magazine provides race results and also curates individual results across all registration and results platforms. Here are examples of a 100 Miler and an individual who ran that race –  our own Sarah McMahon (who was seeing large purple teddy bears during her grueling 32 hours).

This integration helps make results available faster and with less work on the part of the race director, timer, and UltraRunning Magazine. This service is free and requires no additional work for race directors or timers.

RunSignup Race Day Products

One of the reasons that RunSignup is becoming more and more popular with Ultras (over 2,500 Ultra events on our platform in 2021 with over 250,000 participants) is our RaceDay software:

RaceDay Scoring and The Race Director – these are the two software packages we provide to timers that help Ultras report results. They work with chip systems or by hand. They help with complicated features like determining if a participant might have run the 50K course rather than the 100K course, and helping with lap races (even the 5,055 mile relay record set by a team in Greensboro on a track – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2OHuMPlfd8).

Free Results Published on Free Race Websites – RunSignup provides free race websites with published results that are synced in real-time with many timer software scoring platforms like RunScore, as well as RunSignup’s RaceDay Scoring and The Race Director.

Free TXT Result Notifications – When results are published to the website, it also triggers txt notifications to participants and spectators who subscribed for those participants. This works for both splits as well as final times.

Free Photo Platform – Upload unlimited photos that get auto-tagged if bib numbers are visible and loaded in the Results system. Photos appear on the free race website and are automatically integrated on individual result pages and are shareable.

RaceJoy GPS Tracking – This advance service is available from RunSignup Certified Timers. It provides runners who carry a phone with a real-time tracking on an interactive course map, off-course alerts, and estimated finish times based on pace even if there is no cell coverage. It allows spectators to watch participants in real-time on the course when there is cell coverage, as well as send cheers to encourage runners. Race Directors view this as a major safety and course management feature if there is cell service because they can monitor the head and tail of the race, as well as send out emergency messages to participants, if needed.

Partnership

We are working with UltraRunning Magazine to find other ways to collaborate to help the sport. If you have ideas on how we can serve the community better, please let us know.
