How to Add & Organize Menu Items on Your Event Website

You’ve completed the Race Wizard and want to customize your event website with even more with new menu items and content. Great! Creating a clear, organized navigation help participants find exactly what they need – from course details, to sponsors, FAQs, results, photos, and more. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to add & organize menu items on your event website.

Why Menu Customization Matters

Your event website is often the first place participants look when they have questions. A clear, thoughtfully organized menu can:

  • Improve the participant experience
  • Reduce emails and questions from participants (bonus if you enable the RunSignup AI Chatbot)
  • Highlight key race information
  • Make your website easier to navigate

With the Website Builder, you can easily create custom pages, add system pages, and organize everything into a structured menu that works for your event.

How to Add & Organize Menu Items

Step 1: Open the Website Builder

Navigate from your Race Dashboard >> Race >> Website V2 >> Website Builder. This is where you’ll manage pages, menu structure, and layout for your event website.

Step 2: Create a New Page

Before you can create a new menu item, you’ll need to first create a page.

  • Click the “+” button on the upper or lower right corner
  • Select Add New Page (best for custom content), Add System Page (pages automatically created by RunSignup – volunteer registration, results, find a participant), or Add New External Link (link to local running store).
  • Update the title of the page and add content.

Pro tip: Have clear, concise page titles. This will help not only your participants, but search engines to help understand what the page is about.

Step 3: Add the Page to Your Menu

Once your new page is created, it will automatically appear in your websites menu structure.

From here, you can:

  • Leave it as a top-level menu item
  • Drag it under another item to create a dropdown
  • Move it up or down to reflect priority

The flexibility makes it easy to design a menu that fits your event’s needs.

Step 4: Creating a Dropdown Menu

If your event website has several related pages, creating a dropdown menu can help keep things organized and easy to navigate.

For example:

  • Race Info
    • Course map and details
    • Race day schedule
    • Parking information
    • Awards

To create a dropdown:

  • Click the “+” button on the upper or lower right corner
  • Select Add New Dropdown
  • Add related pages by following creating a new page (following Step 2 above) or clicking the gear icon of an already created page and selecting Dropdown in the page settings

Customizing your dropdown menu can be especially helpful as your event grows and you have more information that needs to be delivered to participants.

Step 5: Organizing Your Menu

Once you have all of your menu items in place, you can fine-tune how and when the appear.

Reorder your menu by using the drop-and-drop feature to prioritize important links (register, race info, results)

You can also control the visibility of your pages.

  • Hide menu items when pages are still in progress
  • Show pages only when registration is open
  • Hide pages after race day

Whether you’re highlighting race-day details, sharing sponsor information, or answering common questions, a well-organized menu helps your event website work harder for you.
